Choose by task, not a market trend

A cordless stick vacuum can offer convenient movement; a corded vacuum avoids battery runtime limits while used with a suitable power supply. Neither format is automatically better at every task.

Handling and reach

Consider carrying weight, the weight in your hand, stairs, furniture clearance and the tools supplied. Try the actual machine rather than assuming every stick model is comfortable for every age or ability.

Power supply and cleaning time

For cordless units, compare runtime under the settings and attachments you expect to use, charging time and battery condition. For corded units, consider safe cord reach and access to sockets. Avoid comparing advertising maxima as if they describe the same cleaning conditions.

Capacity and upkeep

Compare bin or bag capacity, dust disposal, filter instructions and replacement costs. Bagless does not mean maintenance-free, and some filters are replace-only. Use the exact manual rather than washing all attachments.

Storage and total cost

Measure storage and charging space and include tools, consumables and delivery in the purchase decision. One suitable machine may meet your needs; owning two types is an option, not a requirement. Check warranty and support for the actual unit.
