Yes, a cordless Dyson can sometimes be posted for repair within Australia—but you should arrange the repair first and check the carrier's lithium-battery rules before sending it. The battery's condition, how it is installed, the transport service and the packaging all matter. A damaged or recalled lithium battery may not be accepted at all.

If you want to send a vacuum to Dusti from outside Melbourne, contact Dusti before posting. Send your model, symptoms and postcode first so the team can confirm whether postal servicing is suitable and tell you what to include.

Can you put a cordless vacuum in the post?

Do not treat a cordless vacuum like an ordinary parcel. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery is classed as dangerous goods for transport. Australia Post's current lithium-battery guidance sets capacity, condition, service and packaging limits.

Australia Post says the lithium-ion limit is 20 watt-hours per cell or 100 watt-hours per battery. For international mail, or domestic mail travelling by air, accepted batteries must be installed in the device and meet the packaging requirements. Recalled, damaged or non-conforming batteries are prohibited. Its guidance also says batteries must not be packed by themselves or loose alongside the device.

That does not mean every cordless vacuum is automatically accepted by every service. For example, Australia Post says dangerous goods, including lithium batteries, cannot be sent by Express Post. Ask the carrier which service can take your exact machine and route before buying postage.

The three checks to make before packing

  1. Repairer check: has the repairer agreed to receive this model, and do they want the charger, cleaner head or other attachment?
  2. Battery check: is the battery undamaged, not recalled and within the carrier's capacity limit?
  3. Carrier check: does the selected service accept the vacuum in its current configuration, and what declaration or packaging does it require?

If any answer is unclear, pause before packing. The sender is responsible for meeting the carrier's dangerous-goods rules.

Do not post a damaged battery

Do not send a battery that is swollen, leaking, visibly damaged, unusually hot, recalled or otherwise suspect. Australia Post expressly prohibits recalled, damaged and non-conforming cells or batteries.

Do not open a battery pack or try to remove individual cells. Use Dyson Australia's guides and manuals to identify your model and follow its instructions. If you are unsure whether the battery should remain fitted, ask both the carrier and the repairer; do not remove it simply to make the parcel appear battery-free.

How should you pack a cordless Dyson for repair?

Once the repair and transport have been approved, use this practical checklist:

  • Empty the bin: remove ordinary dust and debris so it cannot spread through the parcel. Make sure the machine is dry.
  • Prevent accidental operation: pack the vacuum so the trigger or power control cannot be pressed in transit.
  • Use a strong box: choose rigid external packaging with enough room for protective material on every side.
  • Stop movement: cushion the body, wand and cleaner head so they cannot strike each other or the box.
  • Separate loose accessories: wrap approved attachments individually. Include only what the repairer asks for.
  • Protect the parcel: photograph the machine, serial label, accessories and packed box before sealing it.
  • Include your details: place your name, phone number and a short description of the fault inside the parcel, without including sensitive payment information.

Australia Post requires strong internal and external packaging and says the device must be protected against accidental activation. Its full guidance and linked packaging guides should take priority over a general checklist like this one.

Should you send the charger and cleaner head?

Only send the items relevant to the fault or specifically requested by the repairer.

  • If the vacuum will not charge, the charger may help with assessment—but confirm first.
  • If the cleaner head does not spin, the head may be needed.
  • If the main unit cuts out regardless of attachment, the repairer may not need every tool in your cupboard.

Sending unnecessary parts increases parcel size and gives you more pieces to track. Describe the symptom before posting and let the repairer tell you what is useful.

What does postal servicing with Dusti cost?

Dusti's current service is A$95. Parts and fault-specific repairs may cost extra. Postal delivery and return costs are not included in that service price; confirm the arrangement before sending the vacuum.

If you are within Dusti's Melbourne service area, optional pickup and return is A$30, making the service and local transport total A$125. Check that your address is covered before booking. You can compare Dusti's current service, pickup and postage options before deciding.

What should you send Dusti before posting?

A useful first message includes:

  • the Dyson model or a clear photo of the model label;
  • what happens when you press the trigger or power button;
  • any flashing-light pattern or on-screen message;
  • whether the fault changes with a different attachment;
  • your postcode; and
  • whether the battery has any visible damage, swelling, heat or leakage.

Send those details through Dusti's contact page, call 0425 801 741 or email hello@dusti.au. Wait for confirmation before paying for postage or sending the machine.
