Dyson V10 head not spinning? Here’s what to check.

On a V10, a head that stops or stutters is usually hair wrap or a dirty connection between the head and the wand. Here’s how to tell, and when it needs us.

Why a V10 head stops.

Most likely first. Tap a part on the drawing to jump to it.

Hair wrapped around the brush bar

Long hair winds into the ends of the bar and the end bearing. On a V10 the head slows, stutters, then stops to protect its motor.

Check: Take the brush bar out and cut the hair away, especially at both ends.

Something jammed in the head

Hard debris or a sock in the head opening can stall the bar even when the rest of the airflow is clear.

Check: Look inside the head opening and around the bar for anything caught.

Dirty contacts between head and wand

Power reaches the head through small contacts at each joint. Dust or a bent contact cuts it, even though suction still works.

Check: Wipe the contacts on the head, both ends of the wand and the machine, then try the head straight on the machine.

A worn motor or bearings in the head

If it’s clean and still won’t spin, or only turns when you push it, the head’s motor or bearings have usually worn.

Check: Nothing more at home. We test the head and quote the repair or a replacement before fitting.

Try this at home first.

Switch it off and take the battery off, or unplug the charger, before you open anything up.

Dyson V10 head questions.

Why is my Dyson V10 head not spinning when there’s no blockage?

Check the contacts where the head meets the wand and try the head directly on the machine. If it spins there, the wand is at fault. If not, the head’s motor or bearings usually need repair.

Can I use my V10 if the brush bar won’t spin?

It still picks up on hard floors, but carpets won’t clean properly and a jammed bar strains the head motor. Clear it first.

Is it the head or the wand on my V10?

Fit the head straight to the machine. If it spins, the wand’s wiring or contacts are the problem. If it doesn’t, it’s the head.

Do you fix Dyson V10 heads?

Yes. Our $95 service includes finding the fault, and we quote any repair or replacement head before we fit anything.
